MIROSŁAW BAŁKA
a sculptor

The series dedicated to the outstanding artist Mirosław Bałka is an attempt to capture the relationship between the creator and the space in which his works are created. The photos were taken both in his home and in his studio, which in itself is a reflection of the sculptor's energy.

Repeating rhythms, overlapping frames and multiplication of shots visualize the dynamics of this extraordinary space. This series is an attempt to translate into a two-dimensional photographic image the nature of three-dimensional forms, which in Bałka's work often have their source in everyday objects - processed by time, memory and human activity. Photography, despite its nature as a documentary medium, in this context becomes a tool for reinterpreting reality, extracting new meanings from it. Similar to what happens in the work of Mirosław Bałka.

His work is also based on rhythm – both in the organization of space and in the structure of the objects themselves. Repetition, modularity and sparseness of forms build his characteristic visual language, in which the choice of materials also plays a significant role: steel, concrete, ash or soap. Each of these raw materials carries a context of material and symbolic transformation, and their presence in the studio becomes a key element of the visually told story.
