RECONNAISSANCE
Reconnaissance, understood as a set of means and actions necessary to obtain data about events and areas in the surrounding reality, is often also understood as information about the condition of a subject.
I have the impression that this term, situated at the intersection of military and medical contexts, aptly reflects the nature of the discussions conducted in the studio regarding imaging methods inherent to the mediums of photography and video. The duality of its applications—one associated with aggression, the other with providing aid—brings to mind the power of an imaging medium connected to the mimetic nature of photography. Its broad interpretive potential allows for posing questions in a new context.

This enables a fresh interpretation of seemingly obvious situations and elevates the banal beyond everyday contexts. It fosters discussions within the realm of visual representation and the discovery of a new, extraordinary function in an apparently familiar element.

The exhibition was presented at the FIU Art + Art History Project Room in The Backehause Art Complex from November 11, 2016, to December 9, 2016.
